The hut

Located on the top of the Piz Boè, the highest peak of the Sella Group, at 3.152 meters (10,400 feet) of altitude, Rifugio Capanna Piz Fassa offers its guests one of the most beautiful panoramas of the Dolomites. It sweeps from the Marmolada to the Rosengarten; from the Sassolungo to the Tofane, from Puez to Civetta. The hut is the ideal place to experience the thrill of seeing sunrise or sunset from 3.000 meters altitude: a wonderful experience which you can’t miss!

The shelter has 31 beds ready to welcome those wishing to spend an evening away from stress and willing to relax in the unique beauty of this environment.

History

With the opening at Easter 1963 of the cable car to Sass Pordoi, Francesco Dezulian, son of Maria Piaz, pioneer of tourism in Val di Fassa and Passo Pordoi, noticed that up at Piz Boè would have been useful to create a refreshment point.

He shared that thought with Luigi Bernard, father of the current owner Guido, who started a little later, in summer 1968 to work on the construction of a small refuge.

They built a small cable car, which broke soon and so many parts of the structure were taken uphill by shoulder even from young Guido and brothers.

Over the years Guido become first ski instructor and then mountain guide.

In 1977 he devoted himself to the management of Rifugio Forcella Pordoi, combining also the activity of mountain guide.

In 1980 the Rifugio Capanna Piz Fassa, was expanded by the family Bernard, becoming the current structure, which is the 3.000 mt. high hut, most accessible and spectacular of the Dolomites.

Since summer 1988, Guido, has managed the refuge O. Brentari Cima d’Asta.

An intense activity as refuge manager, that now brings him back home as proud owner at the spectacular summit of Piz Boè.
