Before you leave

The golden rules before you leave for your hike:

  • Leave early in the morning and choose the itinerary according to your physical and technical abilities.
  • Check the weather. The best site for temperature, rain or storm forecasts is 3bmeteo.com.
  • The refuge is located above 3000m and the weather changes abruptly.
  • Any excursion in the mountains should not be improvised, but carefully planned by evaluating the route, length, difficulty and weather conditions. Tell people where you are going and your estimated time of return.
  • Wear suitable clothing for the climate, paying particular attention to the expected temperatures at the place of arrival and not at the place of departure.
  • Store spare socks and clothing in your backpack inside plastic bags to keep them dry in case of rain.
  • Use trekking shoes with suitable soles.
  • Carry the necessary equipment, also thinking about emergency situations, but without taking on too much weight.
  • Always have cash on hand. In the mountains there is not always a good connection for using a credit card.

During the excursion

The golden rules during the excursion:

  • NEVER leave the path and always follow the trail signs.
  • Using a map or GPS, try to locate your position. Always have a paper map with you to better evaluate the best or an alternative route.
  • Drink little but often and eat properly.
  • Maintain responsible behaviour.
  • It’s absolutely prohibited to leave waste of any kind.
  • Keep track of the evolution of the weather conditions and, if necessary, change itinerary or give up.
  • In the event of an emergency and the need for help, call 112. Try to remain available (connected) and do not move.

What to bring

What to bring to sleep in the refuge:

  • Sufficient cash – payment by card is not always possible!
  • A headlamp for the night.
  • Plastic slippers. You’re not allowed to enter the rooms with trekking shoes.
  • A small towel and toiletries for the toilets.
  • Warm clothing, as temperatures may fall suddenly.
  • Silence is mandatory from 10:00 pm but for the more sensitive, we recommend ear plugs!
